Namik Glacier Trek – Perched in the isolated region of Kumaon, Namik Glacier lies at an altitude of 3,600 in the lap of Himalayas. It is surrounded by some major Himalayan peaks in the world that are Mt. Trishul, Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi.

Munsyari is the starting point of Namik Glacier trek. It is a hamlet with beautiful wide meadows and striking views of Panchachuli range which makes it the most beautiful spot of Kumaon.

Namik Glacier is very famous because of the sulphur springs and waterfalls which originate from this region. The surroundings are extremely attractive and great for nature lovers. Explore the isolated regions of Kumaon and get into the wilderness of Himalayas. Go through quaint Himalayan villages and peek into the local culture and visit sacred temples.

The Namik Glacier holds significant mythology and cultural importance in the Hindu tradition. It is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism. According to legend, Lord Shiva performed his ecstatic dance, known as the Tandava, in the icy caves near the glacier. These caves are revered as sacred sites by devotees who undertake pilgrimages to seek blessings and spiritual enlightenment.

Day 1

Dehradun to Bageshwar

Start your adventure with a drive from Dehradun to Bageshwar, passing through the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand. Bageshwar, known for its ancient temples, serves as a gateway to several treks in the Kumaon Himalayas.

Spend the evening in Bageshwar, preparing for the trek ahead. Explore the town and visit the confluence of the Saryu and Gomti rivers.

Day 2

Bageshwar to Bhadrtunga Trek

Begin your trek from Bageshwar, ascending towards Bhadrtunga. The trail introduces you to the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Kumaon region.

Set up camp in Bhadrtunga, enjoying the serene surroundings and the first night under the Himalayan sky.

Day 3

Bhadrtunga to Ratlima Trek

Continue trekking from Bhadrtunga to Ratlima, experiencing more of the region's diverse landscapes. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Arrive at Ratlima and camp for the night. This location offers a peaceful setting for rest and rejuvenation.

Day 4

Ratlima to Maadhari Bugyal, Rajkharika Trek

Depart from Ratlima, heading towards the alpine meadows of Maadhari Bugyal and then to Rajkharika. These meadows are known for their breathtaking beauty and panoramic views.

Set up camp in Rajkharika, surrounded by lush meadows and the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas.

Rajkharika to Nanda Mandir Namik Trek

Trek from Rajkharika to the sacred site of Nanda Mandir in Namik Village. The village is known for its historical and cultural significance, nestled amidst majestic peaks.

Spend time exploring Namik and the Nanda Mandir, soaking in the spiritual ambiance of the place.

Day 6

Nanda Mandir to Balchandkund Trek

Trek from Nanda Mandir in Namik to Balchandkund, a high-altitude lake revered for its pristine beauty and spiritual significance.

Set up camp near Balchandkund, enjoying the tranquil and sacred atmosphere of the lake.

Day 7

Balchandkund to Chufuwa

Begin your descent from Balchandkund to Chufuwa. This part of the trek takes you through changing landscapes, offering a different perspective on the region.

Spend the night in Chufuwa, a serene location ideal for resting after the day's journey.

Day 8

Chufuwa Top to Balchandkund

Trek back from Chufuwa Top to Balchandkund, retracing your steps and taking in the landscapes from a new vantage point.

Spend another night near Balchandkund, allowing more time to explore the lake and its surroundings.

Day 9

Balchandkund to Nandadevi Mandir Namik

Descend from Balchandkund back to Nanda Devi Mandir in Namik Village. This return journey gives you another chance to experience the village's culture and beauty.

Nandadevi Mandir to Gogina Trek

Once in Gogina, take time to absorb the experiences of your trek, from the cultural richness of Bageshwar and Namik to the natural splendor of Maadhari Bugyal, Rajkharika, and the sacred Balchandkund. Getting There

How To Reach

By Air

Dehradun’s airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located 20 km away from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the city, which should take you 40 to 45 minutes depending upon traffic.

By Train

Dehradun is connected by regular train services to various cities. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometres away from the city centre and should take you only ten minutes, depending on traffic.

By Road

Dehradun is well connected to cities like Delhi, Shimla, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Agra, and Mussoorie by various buses. Most operate from the ISBT near Clement Town, with departures every 15–60 minutes. Additional services run from the Mussoorie Bus Station near the railway station and the Delhi Bus Stand on Gandhi Road.

Is there mobile signals available on treks?

If you are going on a trek don’t expect mobile signals. There are few spots on the trails of few treks where you might find a single tower or something but it always depends if that is enough to make a call or not.

How do you manage toilets?

We use portable toilet tents for sanitation needs, as permanent structures may not available. These are dry toilets, so please bring wet wipes or tissue paper for personal hygiene.

Do I need to carry trek equipment?

For this trek you just need a day bag to carry during the trek, extra luggage can be left behind at the camp site. Proper bedded swiss tents are available on this trek.

Can we consume Alcohol during the trek?

It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption H2H has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.

How do I prepare for the trek?

Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.

What kind of shoes will I need? Does a sport shoe work?

If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do.
