Gidara Bugyal is a high-altitude meadow located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas. Bugyal is a term used in the local language to refer to alpine pasturelands, and they are often utilized by local communities for grazing their livestock during the summer months.

Gidara Bugyal is a hidden gem in the Uttarkashi region of Uttarakhand. Being one of the largest high altitude meadows in this country, the Gidara Bugyal is twice as big as Dayara Bugyal and Ali and Bedni Bugyal. It takes almost 2 days to traverse the entire length of the Bugyal but surely one of the most stunning experiences. Gidara Bugyal is located near to Dayar Bugyal and is at a higher altitude.

The trek takes you through undulating meadows, grasslands, diverse flora and fauna, near-zero footsteps of other travelers due to its pristine and offbeat nature and mesmerizing campsites. Even though this is an easy trek best suited for both beginners and experienced trekkers, for a novice it is recommended to be in good physical shape due to steep and treacherous sections of the trail.

The ridge walk to Gidara Top at 3930 meters in one of the highlights of this trek as you are presented with uninterrupted views of the mighty peaks of Gangotri, Jogin, Srikanth and DKD on a clear day.

Day 1

Dehradun to Bangeli Village

Begin your trekking adventure by traveling from Dehradun to Bangeli Village. The drive takes you through the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand, introducing you to the beauty of the region.

Spend the evening in Bangeli Village, acclimatizing to the altitude and preparing for the trek ahead. Explore the village and interact with the locals to learn more about their way of life.

Day 2

Bangeji Village to Gujjar Hut

Depart from Bangeli Village and trek towards the Gujjar Hut. This part of the trek takes you through lush forests and meadows, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Set up camp near the Gujjar Hut, a seasonal dwelling used by the nomadic Gujjar community. Enjoy the tranquility of the area and prepare for the next day's trek to Gidara.

Day 3

Gujjar Hut to Gidara

Continue your trek from the Gujjar Hut to Gidara, known for its vast and beautiful meadows. The trek becomes more challenging as you ascend, but the breathtaking views of the Himalayas are rewarding.

Spend time exploring the meadows of Gidara, which are among the most beautiful in Uttarakhand. The area is known for its rich flora and fauna, including a variety of medicinal plants and herbs.

Set up camp in Gidara for the night. The serene environment offers a perfect setting for stargazing and reflecting on the journey so far.

Day 4

Gidara to Bangeli to and Return to Dehradun";

Begin your descent from Gidara back to Bangeli Village. The return trek allows you to take in the landscape from a new perspective and reflect on the experiences of the past few days.

From Bangeli Village, arrange for transportation back to Dehradun. This marks the conclusion of your trek through the stunning meadows of Gidara and the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand.

Once back in Dehradun, take time to reflect on the trek, from the cultural insights gained in Bangeli Village and the tranquility of the Gujjar Hut to the natural beauty of Gidara. The journey offers a blend of adventure, cultural immersion, and connection with nature, leaving you with lasting memories and a sense of accomplishment.

Getting There

How To Reach

By Air

Dehradun’s airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located 20 km away from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the city, which should take you 40 to 45 minutes depending upon traffic.

By Train

Dehradun is connected by regular train services to various cities. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometres away from the city centre and should take you only ten minutes, depending on traffic.

By Road

Dehradun is well connected to cities like Delhi, Shimla, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Agra, and Mussoorie by various buses. Most operate from the ISBT near Clement Town, with departures every 15–60 minutes. Additional services run from the Mussoorie Bus Station near the railway station and the Delhi Bus Stand on Gandhi Road.

We use portable toilet tents for sanitation needs, as permanent structures may not available. These are dry toilets, so please bring wet wipes or tissue paper for personal hygiene.

Do I need to carry trek equipment?

For this trek you just need a day bag to carry during the trek, extra luggage can be left behind at the camp site. Proper bedded swiss tents are available on this trek.

Can we consume Alcohol during the trek?

It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption H2H has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.

How do I prepare for the trek?

Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.

What kind of shoes will I need? Does a sport shoe work?

If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do.
