Your Adventure at a Glance

Located at an elevation of 4421 mts, Saptrishi Kund is a high-altitude lake and the original source of Yamuna River. The lake is fed by Champasar Glacier set in the upper parts of the mountain range created by Bandarpunch Mountain.

Saptrishi Kund is located at a distance of 7 kms from Yamunotri and one has to go through an arduous trek to reach there. This glacial lake is half kilo meter long, surrounded by rocky glaciers and is fed by Champasar glacier.

The beautiful lake is surrounded by rocky mountains and glacier peaks and its trek trail goes through dense forests, beautiful meadows, rare Himalayan flora and fauna, and exotic glaciers. This is trekis still unexplored and not much trekkers have done this trek.

Saptrishi Kund Trek is considered one of the most difficult treks in Uttarakhand and you must undertake the trek with a guide. There are no predefined paths and campsites in the trek and the route is covered by ice.

Sapt Rishi Kund holds significant mythology and cultural importance in Hinduism. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Sapt Rishi Kund is the place where seven revered sages (Sapt Rishis) performed intense meditation and penance. These sages are said to have been instrumental in the transmission of Vedic knowledge and the composition of sacred texts like the Mahabharata. The site is thus considered sacred and is revered by pilgrims and devotees.

The best time to visit Sapt Rishi Kund is during the summer months, from May to June, and the early autumn season, from September to October. During these periods, the weather is generally more stable, with milder temperatures and clearer skies, making it ideal for trekking and outdoor activities.

Day 1

Dehradun to Hanuman Chatti

Start your spiritual journey by traveling from Dehradun to Hanuman Chatti. The drive through the mountains of Uttarakhand offers beautiful landscapes and a glimpse into the region's natural beauty.

Upon arrival in Hanuman Chatti, spend the rest of the day resting and preparing for the trek to Yamunotri. This is an excellent time to acclimatize to the altitude and enjoy the serene surroundings.

Day 2

Hanuman Chatti to Yamunotri

Embark on the trek from Hanuman Chatti to Yamunotri, the first of the Char Dhams in Uttarakhand. This sacred trek takes you through forests and alongside the river, with stunning views along the path.

Explore the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. It's a significant pilgrimage site, where devotees pay their respects and perform rituals. Spend the night in Yamunotri, soaking in the spiritual atmosphere.

Day 3

Yamunotri to Saptarishi Kund and Back

Undertake a challenging day trek to Saptarishi Kund, the original source of the Yamuna River. This high-altitude lake is surrounded by majestic peaks and offers breathtaking views.

After exploring Saptarishi Kund, trek back to Yamunotri for another peaceful night. This trek is both a physical and spiritual journey, offering insights into the natural beauty and significance of the area.

Day 4

Yamunotri to Hanuman Chatti

Begin your descent from Yamunotri back to Hanuman Chatti. This return journey allows you to reflect on the experiences of the past few days, from the spiritual moments at Yamunotri to the natural beauty of Saptarishi Kund.

Spend another night in Hanuman Chatti, resting after the trek and preparing for the journey back to Dehradun.

Day 5

Drive from Hanuman Chatti to Dehradun

Depart from Hanuman Chatti, heading back to Dehradun. This drive marks the conclusion of your pilgrimage to Yamunotri, carrying with you memories of the sacred sites and the stunning Himalayan landscapes.

Once back in Dehradun, take a moment to reflect on the journey undertaken, from the spiritual visit to Yamunotri Temple to the challenging trek to Saptarishi Kund. Getting There

How To Reach

By Air

Dehradun’s airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located 20 km away from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the city, which should take you 40 to 45 minutes depending upon traffic.

By Train

Dehradun is connected by regular train services to various cities. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometres away from the city centre and should take you only ten minutes, depending on traffic.

By Road

Dehradun is well connected to cities like Delhi, Shimla, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Agra, and Mussoorie by various buses. Most operate from the ISBT near Clement Town, with departures every 15–60 minutes. Additional services run from the Mussoorie Bus Station near the railway station and the Delhi Bus Stand on Gandhi Road.

Is there mobile signals available on treks?

If you are going on a trek don’t expect mobile signals. There are few spots on the trails of few treks where you might find a single tower or something but it always depends if that is enough to make a call or not.

How do you manage toilets?

We use portable toilet tents for sanitation needs, as permanent structures may not available. These are dry toilets, so please bring wet wipes or tissue paper for personal hygiene.

Do I need to carry trek equipment?

For this trek you just need a day bag to carry during the trek, extra luggage can be left behind at the camp site. Proper bedded swiss tents are available on this trek.

Can we consume Alcohol during the trek?

It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption H2H has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.

How do I prepare for the trek?

Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.

What kind of shoes will I need? Does a sport shoe work?

If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do.
