Mythology and Cultural

The most prominent legend associated with Kedarkantha is the tale of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity of the Hindu religion. It is believed that Lord Shiva chose the summit of Kedarkantha as his abode for meditation and solitude. However, a bull galloped past, which disturbed his peaceful state. This frustrated Lord Shiva and he decided to relocate to Kedarnath, a more secluded place, where he could meditate without any interruptions.

Day 1

Dehradun to Haltadi Village

Dehradun's Gateway: Starting from Dehradun, the capital city nestled in the Doon Valley, offers a mix of cultural and natural beauty. This city serves as the gateway to the Himalayan adventures, blending the modern with the tranquil.

En Route: The journey from Dehradun to Haltadi Village is an immersive drive through the changing landscapes of Uttarakhand. Spanning approximately 190 kilometers, it takes trekkers through lush valleys, quaint towns like Mussoorie, and alongside rivers, gradually ascending into the serene heights of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Arrival at Haltadi: Haltadi Village, with its pristine natural beauty and warm local hospitality, offers a peaceful base for trekkers. This quiet hamlet allows for acclimatization and last-minute preparations amidst the backdrop of the Himalayas.

Day 2

Haltadi Village to Kedarkantha Base Camp 5km

Trail to Base Camp: The trek from Haltadi to Kedarkantha Base Camp is a journey through dense forests of pine and oak, open meadows, and offers stunning views of the snow-clad peaks. This route introduces trekkers to the rugged beauty and serene landscapes of the region.

Campsite under the Stars: The base camp is an idyllic spot for setting up camp, nestled in a clearing surrounded by towering peaks. It's a perfect place for trekkers to gather, share stories, and enjoy the starry Himalayan sky.

Day 3

Kedarkantha Summit and Return to Haltadi Village

Climb to Kedarkantha: The trek from the base camp to the summit is both challenging and rewarding. As trekkers ascend to the peak at 3,850 meters, they're greeted with 360-degree panoramic views of the majestic Himalayas, including the Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges, Bandarpoonch, and Swargarohini.

Return to Haltadi: After spending time at the summit, the descent back to Haltadi Village is a journey of reflection on the natural splendor and personal achievements of the trek. The village welcomes trekkers back with a quiet evening to rest and rejuvenate.

Day 4

Haltadi Village to Dehradun

Departure from Haltadi: Leaving the tranquility of Haltadi Village, the drive back to Dehradun retraces the scenic route through the heart of Uttarakhand. This return trip is an opportunity to reflect on the experiences and memories forged in the mountains.

Arrival in Dehradun: Returning to Dehradun brings the adventure full circle. The city's lively streets, rich culture, and the comfort of urban amenities offer a gentle reentry from the serenity of the Himalayas, marking the conclusion of a memorable trekking journey.

Getting There

How To Reach

By Air

Dehradun’s airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located 20 km away from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the city, which should take you 40 to 45 minutes depending upon traffic.

By Train

Dehradun is connected by regular train services to various cities. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometres away from the city centre and should take you only ten minutes, depending on traffic.

By Road

Dehradun is well connected to cities like Delhi, Shimla, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Agra, and Mussoorie by various buses. Most operate from the ISBT near Clement Town, with departures every 15–60 minutes. Additional services run from the Mussoorie Bus Station near the railway station and the Delhi Bus Stand on Gandhi Road.

We use portable toilet tents for sanitation needs, as permanent structures may not available. These are dry toilets, so please bring wet wipes or tissue paper for personal hygiene.

Do I need to carry trek equipment?

For this trek you just need a day bag to carry during the trek, extra luggage can be left behind at the camp site. Proper bedded swiss tents are available on this trek.

Can we consume Alcohol during the trek?

It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption H2H has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.

How do I prepare for the trek?

Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.

What kind of shoes will I need? Does a sport shoe work?

If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do.
